Introducing Passionflower Petals

Jasmine Stark, 7/19/24

Passionflower Petals is a YA friends-to-lovers romantasy novel. It is set in a modern fantasy realm full of fae of all kinds. The lead character is a young hybrid (nymph/elf) fae named Clara who lives with her sister and two mothers in Celeste, the largest city on the Elven Continent.

Iris, one of Clara’s mothers, is a nymph from Floria, a much smaller town across the sea.

Carol, her other mother is an elf who was born and raised in Celeste.

The two cities could not be more different with Celeste located in the middle of a desert and playing host to tens of thousands of fae at any time. Floria, on the other hand, is a much smaller community of a couple hundred fae located at the edge of a vast forest.

Though Iris and Carol have lived in Celeste for the majority of their two hundred and sixty some years as a bonded pair, they regularly visited Floria to spend time with Iris’s best friend, Marigold.

Iris and Marigold did everything together, they even got pregnant around the same time. When Margrett was pregnant with Clara, Marigold was pregnant with Amor and in the fortnight that Carol and Margrett had spent in Floria a little over 100 years ago, both Clara and Amor were born.

In the visits that followed, Clara and Amor became as inseparable as their mothers had been, spending most of their time as children playing in the forest and climbing trees together. When Clara was back in Celeste, they would write letters to each other, and every time Clara and her family visited Floria it felt like no time had passed at all. That is until her last visit.

As Clara and Amor got older, Clara’s visits to Floria became less and less frequent and the last time Clara visited her friend, he had changed. That was twenty eight years ago now and it has been at least a decade since she has received a letter from Amor. Until today when Clara, her sister Stella, and their mothers each receive an invitation to Amor’s pairing ceremony. That is where our story starts.
